So after a great weekend, this morning was kind of a pain. I was on the Metro almost at my stop and our train stopped, apparently there was some trouble in front of us with the train. So we sat there for 45 minutes until they finally moved forward and then everyone had to get off the train. Thankfully that was my stop, but that is the first time I've been stuck on the train for that long before. I just started reading Angels & Demons so that helped to get me through.
But the weekend was pretty awesome. Friday night DH and I we enjoyed wine and food. We did some last minute cleaning for our friends, Gary and Carrie who were coming into town for the weekend. They didn't make it in until after 12AM. DH and I got into an argument, because he wanted to go to bed and leave me to stay up and wait for them. I was annoyed because I thought we were going to do that together and I was tired too. He went to bed but couldn't get to sleep because we had argued so eventually got up and waited with me. So we all went to bed after they got in. For some reason, the next morning, DH and I both woke up at 6AM even though we had gone to bed at 1AM. Well, we got up and started to get our stuff ready to go the wine festival. We made coffee and pancakes.
We walked down the hill to catch the bus that would take us to the Metro that would take us to the shuttle to get the festival. Nobody felt like driving since we would be drinking all afternoon so this was our only option. The festival was a lot of fun! It was all outdoors and the weather was really nice compared to the last two years we went when it rained. There were a ton of wineries there. It was impossible to go to them all without getting really drunk. But we made it to a lot of them. The lines got pretty long by the end of the day, but everyone had fun.
Afterwards we all went to our friend Emily's apartment and Matt made us dinner which was fantastic. We played scattergories and just chatted. Finally, we all headed back to our place in a cab around 11ish.
Sunday we slept in and then went to brunch at this fantastic restaurant near our place. We ended up going into Georgetown for some cupcakes. Carrie and I popped into this dress shop that was next to the cupcake place because they had a sign that said "free dresses." The deal was buy two dresses get one free. Well, the next thing we know we're both trying on dresses and falling in love with them. The sales ladies did their job well. They were extremely helpful and complementary. The dresses were $80 a piece so I got two for $120 and she got one for $60. It was not something I usually do or have not done for a long time : compulsive shopping. But my argument was that this was an early birthday present to myself and I had been wanting a sun dress. DH was even going to get me one for my birthday. I can't wait to find a nice occasion to wear them.
So Gary and Carrie told us they are getting married in October in the DC area and they're moving back to the area as soon as they can find jobs. It's going to be difficult, but I really hope it works out for them. They don't have a lot of money for the wedding and I'm not sure they really know how much they cost. I tried to give them some good advice on ways to save money and places they could have the wedding. It's kind of weird, but I have this strong desire to plan their entire wedding for them, as like a hobby. I told them that I would be more than willing to help them out with wedding plans since they are in NYC. Carrie is South Korean and had never been to an American wedding until our wedding that was over a year ago. I told her to go to theknot.com to help her plan. We'll see what happens but I hope they can plan a nice one. It just won't be a typical one. It will have to be small and a little bit different. They were talking about getting married on the mall in DC which I think is a great idea. I offered my help and I will help them as much as they will let me.
